The annual St. James 4-H Food Fest was held at St. Peter Chanel School.  4-H'ers were able to participate in 5 local commodity cookery contests with 18 different divisions.  Awards were presented to all who participated.  Overall Food Fest Favorites winners were: Sugar Cookery - Christian Delbasty, Paulina Elementary with his "Figgy Creams"; Ground Beef Cookery - Nydia Cooper, Member at Large with her "Ground Beef and Seafood Pasta"; Poultry Cookery - Destiny Detillier from Paulina Elementary with her "Baked Chicken and Spinach Flautas"; Egg Cookery - Kaylee Bourgeois from the Science and Math Gifted Center with "NOLA Crawfish Stuffed Deviled Eggs" and Seafood Cookery - Sadie Lear, Member at Large with her "Crawfish Spinach Dip".  Destiny Detillier's "Baked Chicken Spinach Flautas" was also chosen as the Overall Food Fest Favorite.  Victoria Rocquin was chosen in the state food ambassador contest because of her oral presentation on sugar.  She will compete in the state food ambassador contest in April.  All first place winners will compete at the District level in March.  Thanks to Ms. Kathy Guidry and the SPC 4-H Club for hosting the event.

The day began with 4-H'ers entering their dishes and were welcomed by Mr. Ken Guidry, St. James 4-H Agent.  Opening exercises were led by 4-H Club Members Brandi Sieber, Caroline Keller and Drake Boudwin.  Ken Guidry, LSU AgCenter 4-H County Agent explained the day's activities.  A 4-H Idol contest was held next.  4-H'ers Hannah Berthelot, Julien Roberston, Calvin Domangue, Cassidy Mistretta, Caroline Keller, Jaden Pearley, Austin Laiche, Juliet Delatte and Nydia Cooper wowed the audience with their talents.

Ms. Susan Bailey was up next, teaching 4-H'ers line dances and getting them to "Just Dance."  This was a continuation of the healthy lifestyle program being pushed this year by the St. James Parish 4-H Program.  Up next was the Amazing 4-H Race, where 4-H'ers learned about nutrition and were able to active while competing against the clock for first place.

Local volunteers who helped with judging were: Denise Moran, Denny Hymel, Rachael Schexnayder, Cynthia Clifton, Irene Melancon, Michelle Lambert, Margaret Simon, Patty Rodrigue, Chad Dickett, Howard Oubre, Mary Benson, Katy Kahl, Larry Roussel and special guest judge Mr. Charlie Winham from Louisiana Broadcasting.  Special thanks go to Rachael Schexnayder local master teacher of the Prostart Classes who organized the judging.
