On Tuesday, July 28, 2011, students from St. Helena Parish visited the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) in Livingston Parish.
LIGO is an interactive, exhibit-based, science learning center. Programs are developed using appropriate GLEs and the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum for grades K-12. The LIGO Science Education Center provides an opportunity for exploration and engagement with over 40 professionally produced hand-on exhibits, all exemplifying LIGO science concepts. This trip to LIGO helped to enhance youth abilities in science and math. Students were able to learn about heat, gravity, measurements and study color configuration, sound, electricity, etc.
