4-H Summer Camp Geaux Green and White

Youth from across the state are enjoying a great time at 4-H Camp at Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center located in Pollack, La. Red River Parish 4-H members recently participated in several educational tracks during June 2011.

Dramatic Arts

All the world’s a stage at the 4-H Theatre-in-the-Woods where we explore the basics of theater, learn to use movement, voice and improvisation to create believable characters, make silent films, commercials and so much more! Join the fun and learn how theater can make the world a better place. From fierce stage combat to soulful soliloquies this track has it all!

Get Ready, get SET - Science, Engineering & Technology

Get ready, get SET…to have some fun with science, engineering and technology. The SET track will explore the exciting worlds of chemistry, computers, construction, digital photography, rockets and much more. Have fun concocting crazy chemistry experiments that go pop, fizz and maybe even boom. See who can make a rocket fly the highest or farthest. Can your tower hold up against the elements? Create a slide show of your camping experience. Get ready to get SET at 4-H Camp!

Outdoor Adventures

Get ready to explore the great outdoors as a participant in the Outdoor Adventures track this summer at 4-H camp. Participate in a large variety of hands-on activities like learning the proper techniques to shoot a bow; ATV safety such as, proper gear and ATV riding; find your way by learning to use a compass and maybe even catch a fish in the new pond. So, if you are adventurous and being in the outdoors is right for you, sign up for Outdoor Adventures.

Explore Louisiana: Wetlands, Wildlife, and YOU!

This summer, the wetlands track will consist of 3 days of getting down and dirty as we explore all things wetlands. We will introduce campers to what wetlands are, what they do, and why Louisiana needs them so badly. This track will be action-packed with loads of games and activities about wetlands and the plants and animals that live there; we can celebrate summer, but learn a thing or two while having fun!

Fit 4 the Future: Get Ready, Get Set Go!

Never has learning about nutrition been more exciting. Lots of hands-on activities and even some great things to take home. This is a fun way to learn about eating healthy, getting up and moving, setting healthy goals and working as a team to meet them. You will be doing lots of great activities, learning new strategies, working in teams and learning new things you can do to improve the way you eat and are physically active.

Hunter’s Safety Certification

Participants who are at least 10 years of age and wish to become a certified hunter will have that opportunity in this track! Top shooters will have a chance to return to camp to test their skills against other top marksmen statewide in archery and rifle.

Victory Garden

4-H’ers will participate in hands-on activities related to growing a vegetable garden. They will plant vegetables to eat and to share with National Guard Camp HB Cook and Camp Beauregard. 4-Hers who choose this track will learn about vegetables, soil, compost, plant structures, photosynthesis and other cycles related to plant development and growth. There will be a variety of activities including art projects, garden projects, and games associated with this track. Campers will be equipped and challenged to create a community garden project in their home town s, the youth were able to choose from a variety of tracks including;

Youth also have the opportunity to take swimming lessons. They can learn to budget their money at the Camp Store, learn line dancing, and make arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor sports, bicycle safety, tubing and canoeing in the creek. Not to be forgotten, the DANCE each night, one of the highlights of summer camp for everyone. Seeing old friends from years past and meeting new people. Friendships that last a lifetime and memories that will never be forgotten.
