On January 22, 2011, Pointe Coupee 4-H’ers, families and friends gathered at the 2011 Parish Livestock Show to honor one of the organization’s biggest supporters. This year’s parish 4-H and Cattlemen’s Livestock Show was dedicated to the memory of Jeff Smith.
With great honor, the Pointe Coupee Multi-Use Center Arena was also proudly dedicated to Jeff Smith for his contributions to the 4-H livestock program and the youth of Pointe Coupee Parish. Jeff devoted many hours of service and resources to ensure the success of this facility for youth development. As a compassionate family man who always put others first, he provided positive experiences in leadership and citizenship with an array of life skills that would benefit youth for the rest of their lives. The Jeff Smith Arena will be a place for the community to gather and to continue Jeff’s tireless efforts and his commitment to the youth of our parish.
Through personal donations and live and silent auction sales, 4-H supporters contributed a generous amount to the Jeff Smith Memorial 4-H Scholarship Fund. This endowed fund will provide an annual scholarship for a graduating senior 4-H’er who has been involved with livestock and/or exhibits Jeff’s generous nature. Pointe Coupee 4-H would like to thank everyone who has kindly donated their time and resources to make this scholarship available and to help continue the work that Jeff spent his life fulfilling. The LSU AgCenter and the LSU College of Agriculture
