Morehouse Parish is one of seven parishes selected to participate in a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant aimed at reducing obesity and chronic diseases. Partner institutions working with the LSU AgCenter include the Southern University AgCenter and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. The Healthy Communities project works to make Louisiana towns healthier places to live, work, and play. Morehouse parish residents are given the opportunity to help decide what the important issues are and come up with possible solutions. The community works together to make healthy foods accessible and affordable, and ensure that outdoor physical activity is safe, accessible, and fun for all!
