During their monthly Livingston Volunteers for Family & Community (LVFC) Club meeting on May 21, members of the Lady Bugs met to discuss old and new business including upcoming community service projects and tour to the Hammond Research Station. Layne Langley, LSU AgCenter Area Nutrition Agent, conducted a Make Half Your Plate Fruits & Vegetables Program. Besides receiving tips on how to add more fruits and vegetables to their day, members also participated in a taste test. They sampled the store and national brands of tomato juice and fruit cocktail to see if they could determine which was the store brand and which was the national brand. They also took part in a fruit and vegetable game which led to discussion among members. With guidance from Langley, members participated in a food demo and prepared Rise & Shine Cobbler—a tasty recipe with pears, peaches, and prunes.
