The State Fair of Louisiana BB Gun Contest will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., Arena A – Beef Barn, La. State Fairgrounds. You must PRE-REGISTER (NO REGISTRATION ON DAY OF CONTEST!) by Monday, October 15 - to receive 2 gate passes. After October 15 you will receive no gate passes. October 26 will be the last date to register but no gate passes. Cost is $5.00 per contestant. (checks payable Webster 4-H). Open to youth ages 9-19. Order of fire: 4 positions: Standing, Prone, Sitting, Kneeling. Everything will be provided (BB guns, targets, ammunition). DO NOT bring your own BB gun to the contest – you must use the guns provided. Awards will be given.

The Junior Beef Grazing project is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association and the LSU AgCenter and we will recognize the winners of the project at the annual LCA Convention. We will also have numerous projects available at no cost to the participants by Agriculture companies. Wax Seed Company is donating ryegrass seed for the projects, Schering-Plough, Fort Dodge Animal Health, and Merial are providing pharmaceuticals and dewormers for the projects. Deadline to enter is October 26th.

The show will be held at Railroad Park in downtown Ruston on October 11th. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. The show will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. All animals must be on a leash or in a cage. You may enter only TWO of the following categories:

Dogs: biggest, smallest, best trained, best dressed, cutest, ugliest.
Cats: best long haired, best short haired, best dressed, biggest, and ugliest
Best “Pig”
Most Unusual or any other

Lincoln Parish 4-H will be at the State Fair on October 24th thru November 9th at the fairgrounds in Shreveport. AgMagic, arts & crafts, Share the Fun Talent Show, or quiz bowl competitions are just a few of things you can participate in! Ask us how you can be a part of the State Fair.

4-H Fashion Camp

The camp is for 7th-12th graders and will take place at Camp Grant Walker located in Pollock, LA, January 26-27th. There will be numerous activities in the area of fashion and clothing construction. Cost of camp is TBA. Application and fees are due in the 4-H office by November 16th. Please call our office at 251-5134, if interested.

Living Safe Day Camp!

When: Nov. 5th & 6th – 9am–12pm Who: 4th – 6th graders

Where: Trinity United Methodist Church

What: Taking Chances…each day of our lives we take chances just by simply living. We can better our chances of staying safe if we learn how to be safe! That is just what we will do during the 4-H Living Safe Day Camp. Some topics we plan to include are: Cyber Safety, Avoiding Distracted Driving, Food Safety, Outdoor Safety, and Self Defense. Call the 4-H Office at 318-251-5134 to get registered. Cost is $15.00 per person. Deadline to register is October 26, 2012. You will learn that being SAFE can be FUN!

Our Shooting Sports Program is growing every year. If you would like to be involved in one of our shooting sports areas, contact either Brad Martin for Shotgun at 251-1095 or Jeannie Rowland for Archery at 777-8788. Don’t miss out on this exciting and fun 4-H program.


The contest will be on October 13th at the Methodist Children’s Home Chapel with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. and show starting at 9:30 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place winners in each class. First place winners in each class will qualify for the La. State Fair Talent Contest on Oct. 27th. Time limit per act is 6 minutes. Maximum group size is 8. One award will be given for the group.

Junior Division (ages 9-13): Class 1 (Dance); Class 2 (Vocal); Class 3 (instrumental); Class 4 (Other)
Senior Division (ages 14-19): Class 5 (Dance); Class 6 (Vocal); Class 7 (instrumental); Class 8 (Other)

4-H Dairy Poster Contest

You will need to design a poster to convince people to eat and drink dairy products.

Black History Month Poster Contest
In observance of Black History Month you will design an informative poster about Black History.

Division I – 4th, 5th, and 6th grades
Division II – 7th, 8th, and 9th grades
Division III – 10th, 11th, and 12th grades

Be sure to follow the rules below or you will be disqualified:

  • Must be on 22” x 28” white poster board only.

  • Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than ½ inch thick.
  • Do not use the commercial brand names of products on the poster.
  • Do not use jingles, slogans, signs or pictures that are trademark or copyright protected on the poster.
  • Print name, address, grade, school, and parish on back of poster in the upper right hand corner.
  • Posters are due to the 4-H office by December the 14th.
  • Cash prizes will be awarded at 4-H Achievement Day.

4-H Piggy Banks to Collect Pig Kiss Votes In!

We are having a contest. Each club is to create two piggy banks – one for Mr. Gary and one for Ms. Amanda. A representative from each club will bring their club’s piggy bank pair to the 4-H Pet Show on October 11th to be judged. The winning club will receive an award at their November club meeting.

4-H Piggy Bank Requirements: must look like a pig, must be functional (able to hold/collect votes, at least 12” tall and no taller than 36” tall, must be labeled with the name of the agent it is holding votes for along with a picture of that agent, must include the 4-H clover and the 4-H pledge, must include the colors green and white, must include the club name .and represent the school, objects attached to the pig may not stick out further than 4”, and must include 4 facts about agriculture.
