Parish Officers and Leaders Attend Regional Training

Belle Chasse Primary School in Plaquemines Parish was the host site for the 2013 4-H Officer/Leader Training held on Saturday, October 19. Jefferson Parish 4-H club officers and leaders joined participants from Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Charles, and Plaquemines parishes. Club officers received special training in their specific officer responsibilities followed by special workshops in four different areas. Volunteer leaders participated in a separate leader workshop. The day ended with a hot dog lunch. Participants will receive an Officer/Leader Training T-Shirt at upcoming club meetings.  See attached newsletter for list of participants' names and clubs.

4-H Commodity Cookery Contests

Calling all 4-H Chefs! It’s time for the Jefferson Parish 4-H Commodity Cookery Contest. Divisions include: Egg Cookery, Seafood Cookery, Ground Beef Cookery, Poultry Cookery, and Sugar Cookery. The first contest will be held within your 4-H Club. Your club leader will announce the contest date and time. Blue Award winners from the club contests and Mail-Box Member will be eligible to participate in the Parish Commodity Cookery Contest in early 2014. This is a great time to try your hand at cooking! You will also learn about nutrition and safe food handling. There is also an Ambassador (Public Speaking) part to the contest at the parish level. Rules will be provided at your club meeting. Mail-Box Members will receive contest rules with their regular monthly newsletter.

Project Christmas

Attention 4-H Members! Our next parish-wide community service event will be "Project Christmas. " Throughout the entire month of November, we are asking 4-Hers to collect new toys for our annual toy drive. Toys should be new, unwrapped, and target youth ages 9 and older. Gift cards (Wal-Mart, Dollar Tree, Target, etc.) in $10 and $20.00 amounts are always welcome! We are also collecting other Christmas items such as: Christmas Socks Christmas Books Santa Hats Christmas Puzzles Christmas Coloring Books and Crayons These items will be distributed to needy youth in the area. All items are needed no later than December 6. Call the 4-H Office at 736-6519 to arrange for pick up or drop off of toys.

4-H Foundation Awards

The Louisiana 4-H Foundation sponsors three special awards to recognize outstanding individual project work. These awards are the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Award of Excellence for Junior 4-H Members, 4-H Key Club Award for Senior members, and the 4-H Honor Cord for graduating 4-H members. 4-H Holiday Fundraiser

Visit a 100 year old home decorated with over 10,000 Teddy Bears! Mark your calendars for this unique holiday event! 1525 Dufossat Street, New Orleans (Located directly to the rear of the Latter Library on St. Charles Ave.) Date and Tour Time: Saturday, December 7th, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tours take about 1 1/2 hours. Pre-Sale Tickets: $7.00 for Adults $4.00 for Children 17 and under. Door Price: $10.00 Adults $8.00 for Children 17 and under. Proceeds benefit Jefferson Parish 4-H Youth Development Program.
