Arbor Day is celebrated on the third Friday in January. This year Arbor Day will be held on January 18. Trees have thousands of uses such as recreation, wildlife habitat, landscaping, energy, medicine, chemicals, packaging, lumber (to build houses, barns, and furniture), and food. Wherever you live you are in contact with products made from trees each day. Forests have many environmental benefits such as providing food and homes for birds and animals. They protect our water supply by keeping soil from washing away. They clean the air by removing pollutants and giving off oxygen for us to breathe. Individuals and groups celebrate Arbor Day by planting trees and shrubs. You can also share information about trees with your club, school, or neighbors. Plan your Arbor Day celebration today!
