4-H Challenge Camp

Six Jefferson Parish 4-H members participated in the recently held 4-H Challenge Camp at Tickfaw State Park in Springfield, LA. 4-H members from fifteen parishes enjoyed the beautiful outdoor setting while learning environmental education and healthy living choices, as well as participating in numerous challenge and teambuilding activities. Jefferson Parish participants included: Harrison Rosato, Joseph Blanco III, Mahree Houston, and Marilyn Pati from Patrick Taylor Academy; and Janaee’ Doucet and LaShai Dowl from Our Lady of Prompt Succor School. Ag Center 4-H Agents Ann Gauthier and Chantel Williams also accompanied the group.

Hoops and Clovers 2013

Join in the fun as 4-H members, friends, and family from across the state converge in the New Orleans Arena to see the New Orleans Hornets battle the Houston Rockets. This “Hoops and Clovers” event will take place on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM. This game is dedicated as Louisiana 4-H Night! All 4-H members, their families and friends are invited to attend. Youth must be accompanied by an adult. The cost of the tickets will be $21.00. Please contact the 4-H office for more information.

4-H Foundation Awards Announced

The Louisiana 4-H Foundation sponsors three special awards to recognize outstanding individual project work. These awards are the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Award of Excellence for Junior 4-H Members, 4-H Key Club Award for Senior members, and the 4-H Honor Cord for graduating 4-H members. The deadline for application submission for these awards is January 11, 2013. All applications are available in the 4-H Office. Please contact the 4-H office for more information.

4-H Commodity Cookery/Ambassador Contests

Calling all 4-H Chefs! It’s time once again for the Jefferson Parish 4-H Commodity Cookery/ Ambassador Contests! The first level of this contest will be held within your 4-H Club. Your club leader will announce the contest date and time. First Place Blue Award Winners from the club contests and any Mailbox Member will be eligible to participate in the Parish wide Commodity Cookery Contest in the spring of 2013. See your club leader or attached rules for more details.

4-H Shirt Orders Still Accepted

Shirt Orders are still being accepted until November 30. Shirt orders and payment must be mailed to: Jefferson Parish 4-H Office, 1221 Elmwood Park Blvd., Suite 300, Jefferson, LA 70123. Make checks payable to Jefferson Parish 4-H Clubs. The cost is $10.00.

Honey Bee Essay Contest

All 4-H members are invited to participate in the upcoming 4-H Honey Bee Essay Contest . Essays are DUE in the 4-H Office by Friday, February 1, 2013. Entries must address the designated topic: “Reducing the Usage of Bee- Killing Pesticides in my Community”. Complete contest rules, scoresheet, and essay cover sheet are available from the 4-H Office.
