4‑H is America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. 4-H is a nationwide program that is delivered through over 100 public universities. The Louisiana 4-H program operates under the LSU AgCenter which provides a parish specific 4-H program throughout the state.
The urban 4-H program of Jefferson Parish offers programming for youth in K-12th grades to build STEM (Wetlands Education, Agriculture Education, Finacial Literacy, and more), Healthy Living, and Leadership /Citizenship skills. Through research-based educational activities, 4-H participants gain knowledge and life skills that enable them to become positive, productive, capable, and compassionate members of their communities.
Louisiana 4-H utilizes the research based 4-H Thriving Model in order for youth to achieve key positive youth development outcomes such as academic motivation, connection with others, personal responsibility and more. We believe that the most effective way for youth to thrive is to first find a hobby or interest that motivates them to grow as an individual. We pride ourselves in offering a variety of subject areas so that a child can find their spark that ultimately leads to youth thriving. Studies have shown that these methods lead to youth being more engaged in community service, adopting healthy living habits, and participating in more STEM activities.
