Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center

The Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center offers a wide variety of additional youth programming opportunities throughout the year. Spark~Action~Change Summit

This immersive 3-day event is designed to engage and inspire 7th-8th grade 4-H members with a keen interest in government relations, volunteering/service, and personal development. The summit aims to provide a dynamic and interactive learning environment where participants can deepen their understanding of civic engagement, refine their leadership skills, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility. Through a series of hands-on educational workshops, engaging tours, and collaborative service projects, youth will have the opportunity to explore critical aspects of civic education, public service, and personal growth.

The summit is usually held in early spring on the LSU Campus in Baton Rouge and lasts three days. For more information, contact your local 4-H agent.


Junior Leadership Conference

Junior Leadership Conference (JLC) is a two-night camp held at Camp Grant Walker. The camp is designed for potential leaders in your parish who are 14 years and older in grades 8-12. Sessions are developed and taught in four different subjects by the Executive Board members. JLC tracks provide participants with activities that they can take back to their parish and implement. There are opportunities for all participants to showcase their leadership backgrounds through roundtable sessions.

National 4-H Conference

National 4-H Conference is hosted by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Louisiana 4-H has an application and interview process to select four delegates. These delegates represent Louisiana 4-H at the National 4-H Conference where each one chooses a topic to research, discuss, and formulate a briefing to present to federal agencies. These topics are real world issues that federal agencies are working to address and want youth perspective to inform their work. Youth will spend several days meeting in small groups to discuss the challenge question, share their perspectives, and formulate a response presentation. They will visit with those federal agencies to formally present their feedback.

The conference usually takes place in the spring and lasts six days in Arlington, Virginia. For more information, contact your local 4-H agent.


4-H Summer Camp

East Carroll Parish typically camps the end of May or first of June (date subject to change) at Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, Louisiana. 4-H Summer Camp lasts four days. For more information, contact your local 4-H agent.


4-H University

What is 4-H University?

4-H University is Louisiana 4-H's premier youth leadership and career development experience, designed to help teens become Beyond Ready! This dynamic event brings together youth ages 13-18 from across the state to compete, connect, and grow through:

  • Hands-on contests that challenge critical thinking and showcase talents
  • Interactive workshops that build communication, teamwork, and adaptability
  • Inspiring assemblies that spark motivation and personal growth

4-H U takes place in June every year and lasts three days on the LSU Campus in Baton Rouge. For more information, contact your 4-H Agent.


LOST Camp

4-H offers middle school students the opportunity to have fun with science by attending the annual 4-H LOST (Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology) Camp. This educational camp is a 4-day, 3-night adventure for 7th-8th graders. Campers enjoy interactive recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing/kayaking, archery, volleyball, dancing, arts and crafts, and much more. While at 4-H LOST Camp, campers select three educational tracks in which they participate in fun activities each morning that are focused on that area. The tracks include videography, wetlands, outdoor adventures, SET (science, engineering, and technology), and more! In the evening, campers enjoy free time which includes hanging out with new friends at the dance, movies, swimming pool, or arts and crafts building. Attending LOST Camp is a great way to meet new friends from across the state of Louisiana. Campers sleep in large, air-conditioned cabins at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, Louisiana.

Marsh Maneuvers

Marsh Maneuvers is an immersive education program for youth in grades 9-12 that focuses on increasing knowledge, skills, and motivations toward coastal ecology and biology. Since starting in 1989, over 1,900 youth have participated in this program. Some of the activities include airboat tours of the marsh, crabbing and fishing, a mock coastal restoration debate, and a marsh grass stewardship planting project.

Marsh Maneuvers last five days during the summer and Advanced Marsh Maneuvers lasts three days in December. For more information, contact your local 4-H agent.
