4-H University Success

This past summer, eight East Baton Rouge Parish 4-H’ers took part in 4-H University held on LSU’s main campus. Among nearly 2,500 members from across the state, this great group represented our program extremely well, and we couldn’t be more proud of them. Attendees included Jasmyn Jackson, Myandra Gideon, Ashley Jacobs, Kinslee Pellerin, Danna Thompson. Logan Owen, Douglas Ngo and Caleb Jackson.

Are You Ready to Get Messy?

Get ready to get messy! All 4-H’ers in grades 7-12 are invited to join us at MESS FEST 2016! Meet Ms. Katie and other Junior Leaders on October 13 at 6:00 PM at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden Center. Be prepared for some deliciously messy fun!

Backyard Buddies Club

The EBRP Backyard Buddies Club will continue this year for those interested in a small-animal project. While it will focus primarily on a Cloverbud and elementary level, all members are welcome. The first meeting will be Thursday October 20 at 6:00 PM at the EBRP 4-H Office.

EBRP is Shooting for Excellence!

The EBRP 4-H Shooting Sports Club is ready to get started and welcome new members! This year Ms. Katie and instructors decided to offer a Hunter’s Education class. The Hunter’s Education Class will be offered to all youth either residing or attending school in EBRP Parish at no charge except for the $5.00 4-H membership fee for non-members. The class will begin Friday, October 7th from 5:30 p.m-9:00 p.m. at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries located at 2000 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge in the Louisiana room. Classes will continue at 8:00 a.m. October 8th and will end at approximately 2:00 p.m.. To register please call the parish office at (225) 389-3055. All participants must register by September 30th!

Interested in joining Shooting Sports and not quite sure what it is? 4-H Shooting Sports is an activity for everyone — girls, boys, young and old, urban and rural. Participation is not limited by skill or physical abilities. The 4-H Shooting Sports is open to any 4-H youth between the ages of 9-19. The four shooting disciplines offered in East Baton Rouge Parish — archery, air pistol, air rifle, and shotgun — are taught by a National or State Certified Instructor.

The Mandatory Training Day will take place October 22nd from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the 4-H property located at 8300 Comite Acres Drive in Baker. This training is MANDATORY for all new or previous members taking on a new discipline. First year members may only take part in one discipline. Horse Club

The EBRP 4-H Horse Club is ready to gallop into a new year! We have an exciting year planned, full of workshops, trainings and plenty of hands-on activities for our very own horse enthusiasts. Monthly meetings will be held at Shady Park Arena in Greenwell Springs. Due to the recent events of the flood we have not scheduled our first meeting date yet. Stay tuned for updates! Junior Leader Club

The Junior Leader Club is a service-based club where members become more involved in their communities through fun, interactive programs. We’ll explore leadership in new ways, get involved and share experiences. You’ll want to be a part of this!

Livestock Club News

The East Baton Rouge Parish Livestock Club meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in Zachary. This project club is for anyone who is interested in raising and showing livestock. Our next meetings will be Sept 13 & Oct 11. For more information, please contact Ms. Katie.

National 4-H Week

Help celebrate our 4-H Program during National 4-H Week, October 2-8, 2016! Show your 4-H pride by sponsoring school activities throughout the week and help get others to share your enthusiasm! Some examples include sponsoring a free dress day to wear the color green, giving back to your teachers by providing them with something sweet to eat, or cleaning the school grounds to make them more welcoming and inviting. Be creative, be innovative and do what you can to make a positive difference in your school and community. I am excited to share this week with you and look forward to seeing what you come up with. Be sure to share your excitement with others! Post pictures and videos on social media, and share your success with the world! Get involved and have fun!

Paper Clover Fundraiser at Tractor Supply

Tractor Supply Co. will once again host the Paper Clover Fundraiser at the Zachary location from October 5-15. This fundraiser helps support local and statewide 4-H programs. Contributing is easy, just pay $1 for your clover when checking out at your next Tractor Supply visit!

Super Fun Summer Camp 2016

Nothing beats a week as a camper at 4-H Camp Grant Walker — the nightly dances, fun trips to the pond, swimming in the pool, arts & crafts, and so much more! This year, 63 East Baton Rouge 4-H’ers were able to share in that experience, and all had a blast. These campers shared the experience with other 4-H members from across the state and participated in a multitude of different activities from Outdoor Skills to Standup Paddle Boarding and everything in between. The memories made this summer are sure to last a lifetime!

The EBRP Livestock Club will host a Jambalaya Sale on Saturday, October 15 @ the Zachary Tractor Supply location. Plates will be $8, and orders can be placed by contacting Ms. Katie or purchasing from a Livestock Club member.

Tailgate With the Tigers

Join 4-H for a day of tailgating and football on November 19, 2016, as the Fighting Tigers take on South Alabama in this super matchup! All 4-H members and their families are invited to a huge tailgate party at Parker Coliseum beginning at 9 a.m.

Whether you are a first-year member, in your final year, or somewhere in the middle of your 4-H experience, welcome! We’re happy that you’ve become a part of the program and are confident you’ll find something that sparks your interests. The year ahead is PACKED full of different activities designed for you to use your Head, Heart and Hands to improve your Health and your community.

Each month, you’ll receive The Clovertalk, our monthly newsletter designed to keep you informed and up-to-date on all things 4-H. Inside the pages you’ll see information about contests, camps, events, workshops, project club info, and MORE! Be sure to take it home and share with your family so that everyone can become more involved and engaged. We are all excited to embark on another year with our 4-H’ers and look forward to all of the memories we will make together.
