National 4-H Week
October 6-12 has been set as National 4-H Week! This event is designed to promote and celebrate 4-H throughout the country. It reminds us to pledge our heads to clearer thinking, our hearts to greater loyalty, our hands to larger service and our health to better living for our club, our community, our country and our world. Help us celebrate 105 years of Louisiana 4-H!

Louisiana Art and Folk Festival
The 58th annual Louisiana Art and Folk Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 in downtown Columbia. Make plans to visit the 4-H mini-farm and the Children's Tent located on the river walk. Come pet the farm animals and participate in the children's activities. Members of the Junior Leader Club will be assisting with activities in the children's area.

Area Leader Forum
The Area 4-H Leader Forum for the 12 parishes in the Northeast Region was held on Sept. 25 at the Rayville Civic Center. Central Elementary 4-H leader Danyell Guerrero represented Caldwell Parish. The theme for this year's program was "4-H Commander: Leader Edition". Participants attended professional development sessions for new leaders as well as master volunteers.

Junior Leader Club
The Junior Leader Club is an afterschool project club for members in grades 7-12. Junior Leaders are active with service learning projects, assist with 4-H events, serve as camp counselors and have lots of fun! Enrollment is open and club dues are $20 which includes a 4-H t-shirt. The next meeting will be held from 4:15 - 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 at the Prekindergarten Center. We will be recruiting volunteers to work the Children's Tent at the Louisiana Art and Folk Festival.

Leaf ID Contest
Entries for the 4-H Leaf ID Contest are due to the 4-H office on Friday, Oct. 25. Submit a notebook of 15 pages of leaves, one leaf per page. Leaves must be collected during the current school year. Tape each leaf on a separate piece of construction or copy paper. Be specific when identifying leaves. If a leaf is from a Southern Red Oak, write Southern Red Oak, not just oak. If the leaf is from a Longleaf Pine tree, write Longleaf Pine, not just pine. Write your name, school and grade on the front cover of the notebook. Contest divisions are Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12. Awards will be given to first, second and third place winners.

Fall Foods Festival
The Fall Foods Festival will be held on Monday, Nov. 11 at 8:45 a.m. at Union Central Elementary school. The pre-registration deadline for this event is Wednesday, Nov. 6.
