5th Grayson 4Fashion Revue and Consumer Decision Making
The Caldwell 4-H Fashion Revue and Consumer Decision Making contests give members the opportunity to display skills needed to produce textile products, skills in decision making and their creativity. Approximately 24 4-H members participated in the Fashion Revue on Monday, Jan.13 at Grayson Elementary School in the four contest categories of Clothing Construction, Decorated Shirts, Ready-to-Wear and Consumer Decision Making. The 4-H Communication and Career Day will take place on Monday, Feb. 3 at Union Central Elementary School. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. 4-H'ers can enter the Career Preparation Interview, Demonstration and/or Ambassador Talk contests. The pre-registration deadline for this event is Wednesday, Jan. 29. Beef Poster Contest
Entries for the 2014 Beef Poster Contest are due on Friday, Feb. 28. 4-H'ers who compete in this contest learn more about beef and beef products and their importance to human health. Poster must be on 11x14" white poster board. Remember to place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner of the back of the poster. Your poster should generate positive images of beef and beef products and not portray negative images of other food products. Contest divisions are Grades 4-6, Grades7-9 and Grades 10-12. 4-H Camp registration begins on Monday, Feb. 10. Caldwell 4-H'ers will camp this year from May 26-30. To be eligible to attend, a 4-H'er must be in 4th, 5th or 6th grade and be 12 years of age or younger on Jan. 1, 2014. Camp fee is $175 and includes food, lodging, a t-shirt, picture and transportation. If you are on free or reduced lunch and would like to go to camp, ask about the Chancellor's Scholarship Program. A non-refundable $50 deposit for summer camp must be paid by Friday, March 14 to reserve your spot for camp. Payment is by check or money order only, made payable to Caldwell 4-H. All remaining fees must be paid and camp forms completed and turned in to the 4-H office by Friday, May 9. Registration must be done at the Caldwell Parish LSU AgCenter office, 106 Jackson Street in Columbia, La. Do not send forms or money to school. There will be a $25 charge for returned checks. Camp Grant Walker is an 80-acre campsite located near Pollock, La., about 15 miles northeast of Alexandria. 4-H Camp is a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, get along with others and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. If you are interested in going to Camp, please come by our office as soon as possible to sign-up.
