Area 4-H Cookery Contest

Caldwell 4-H club members participated in the Area 4-H Cookery Contest on March 6, 2012, at the Rayville Civic Center. Winners included Brooklyn Hatten, Blue Ribbon - Rice Main Dish; Lindsey Coates, 1st place - Rice Any Other; Anna Klair Spangler, Blue Ribbon - Sweet Potato; Lindsey Coates, Blue Ribbon - Egg; Nealy McCoy, Blue Ribbon - Ground Beef; Kyle Parker, 1st place - Any Other Beef. First, second and third place winners received cash awards. Contest participants were involved in fitness and nutrition activities while attending this event. Each of these 4-H'ers was a first or second place winner in the Caldwell 4-H Fall Foods Festival held in November.

4-H'ers Promote Beef

4-H club members participated in the 4-H Beef Poster Contest to learn more about beef and beef products and their importance to human health. Youth were asked to create a poster telling a story about beef and beef products. All 62 participants received ribbons. First, second and third place winners received cash awards. This contest was sponsored by the Caldwell Cattleman's Association and the Caldwell 4-H Foundation. First place posters will compete in the state contest for additional cash awards.

Pet Show

4-H members demonstrated their knowledge of animals and animal care during the Caldwell 4-H Pet Show held on March 19, 2012. Twenty-eight animals ranging from geckos to horses were entered in the show. Contest categories were Dogs, Small Animals and Large Animals. All participants received ribbons. First, second, third, fourth and fifth place winners received cash awards. This contest was sponsored by Mixon and Carroll PLC and the Caldwell 4-H Foundation.

4-H Day at the Capitol

4-H Day at the Capitol will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the state capitol in Baton Rouge. Members will leave the 4-H office in Columbia, Louisiana, at 6 a.m. on that day to travel to Baton Rouge to attend this event. The cost of the trip is $10 and is due to the 4-H office by Wednesday, May 2, 2012. This fee is non-refundable after May 2. 4-H Camp

4-H Camp registration begins on April 23, 2012! Caldwell 4-H'ers will camp this year from July 23-27. 4-H Camp is a learning experience that helps members appreciate the great outdoors, live together as a group, get along with others and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. 4-H Camp is held at the LSU AgCenter's Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80 acre campsite located near Pollock, Louisiana. To be eligible, members must be in grades 4, 5 or 6 and must be 12 years of age or younger on January 1, 2012. Camp fee is $175, check or money order only. A $50 deposit is due by May 25, 2012. To sign-up for camp, pay fees and fill out camp forms, come by the Caldwell Parish LSU AgCenter office located at 106 Jackson Street in Columbia, Louisiana. A limited number of spaces are available, 52 for girls and 26 for boys. Come by our office and reserve your spot for camp as soon as possible! L.O.S.T. Camp

The Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology Camp is for 7th and 8th grade 4-H members and features tracks in the fields of science, engineering, technology and outdoor education. Camp registration begins on April 23, 2012. LOST Camp will be held from July 30 - August 3 at 4-H Camp Grant Walker and costs $175. A deposit of $50 is due to the Caldwell 4-H office by May 25, 2012. Participants must be in the 7th or 8th grade as of May 2012. Participants will choose three tracks and participate in all three. Some of the tracks available this year will be ATV, Wetlands, Energy, Videography, Kitchen Chemistry, Outdoor Skills plus several more.
