Calcasieu Parish Jr Livestock Program Information

Beef Grazing Project

The Beef Grazing Project is a way for our youth to be actively involved in the cattle industry. Project members will house a set of 4 calves on two and a half acres of grass. Most of the materials needed for this project are donated! You just need the cattle and the land. You are scored on the daily weight gain among other things. The Calcasieu Parish first place winner will receive a buckle donated by our Calcasieu Cattleman's Association plus recognition at their annual banquet. The state winners (Bulls, Heifers, and Steers) will receive a trophy, belt buckle, and $250 cash award. If you would like further information please contact Jennifer Cantrell at the 4-H office. The deadline to apply is November 1st. Please pass this one to anyone you feel would be interested. It is open to any 4-H or FFA member.
