The Ascension Parish 4-H Outdoor Skills program is for 4-H members interested in learning more about marksmanship, wildlife, hunting, fishing and conservation. This project club for beginning members meets on specific weekends at the new range each month. The meetings consist of training in shooting sports safety and in skills such as wildlife and conservation.Youth learn firearm safety and marksmanship in BB, Air Rifle, 22, Air Pistol, Shotgun, and Archery. Members participate in several contests throughout the year including the regional and state shooting matches.
Throughout the summer the members will work on conservation projects such as building pine cone bird feeders, duck boxes and fishing traps.
Instructors are needed for the upcoming year. Parent volunteers are invited to attend a shooting sports instructor training. Please call the 4-H office at 225-621-5799 for more information about training.Please note that all members who are 10 years old or older as of January 1 are required to complete the Hunter's Education Class that is offered through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. All members who participate in the .22 rifle, .22 pistol or shotgun disciplines are required to have their Hunter’s Safety Certification before beginning.
