Demo Day- Poster Contests

Creating posters is a great way to express your inner creativity and advocate for areas that you may be interested. Think of the poster as a billboard advertisement that would catch your eye as you pass by in the car. Make the poster catchy, colorful, neat, informative, be sure to use correct information, and most of all...have fun!

General Poster Contest Rules:

  • The poster should create a positive image and share your knowledge of the beef industry, milk or dairy industry, or of 4-H. The finished poster should be appropriate for use on an educational billboard.
  • Do not use commercial brand names of products on the poster. Do not use jingles, slogans, signs, or pictures that are trademark or copyright protected on the poster.
  • Print name, address, grade in school, and parish on the back of the poster in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Computer-generated clip art may be used on the poster if it is not copyrighted material.
  • Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than ½” thick.
  • Posters will be allowed to compete at Demo Day without having participated in a school contest.
  • Winning Posters in beef and dairy categories may be submitted to the state contest. 4-Hers are only allowed to win the state contest once.

Dairy Billboards

Dairy Poster Guidelines:

Parish winning posters may be submitted to the State competition.

State winning beef posters will receive Cash awards; 1st $100, 2nd $75, 3rd $50)

  • The design must be on a 22”x28” poster board only.
  • The poster should generate a positive image of the milk and/or dairy industry (dairy cattle only) and not portray a negative image of other food products or industries.
  • Get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, nutrition bulletins, etc.
  • Divisions:
    • I-----4th, 5th, and 6th grades
    • II----7thand 8th grades
    • III---9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades

Beef Posters

Beef Poster Guidelines:

Parish winning posters may be submitted to the State competition.

State winning beef posters will receive Cash awards; 1st $200, 2nd $100, 3rd $50)

  • Posters must use the following 2025 theme:
    Very Healthful, Very Delicious
  • The design must be on a 22” x 28” white poster board or Digital Design for Division III ONLY. See below guidelines for Division III Digital Posters.
  • The poster should generate a positive image of beef and beef products and not portray a negative image of other food products (i.e. chicken, pork, etc.)
  • Get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, nutrition bulletins, Beef Ambassador Facts Sheets, and meat publications. Materials are also available from your local supermarket, butcher, The American Meat Institute, or National Livestock and Meat Board.
  • Divisions:
    • I-----4th, 5th, and 6th grades
    • II----7th, 8th, and 9th grades
    • III---10th, 11th, and 12th grades
Digital Division- Open to all ages will compete against each other due to previous low submission.



Beef Poster Digital Guidelines:

  • Digital entries must be designed using one of the following programs: Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva.
  • Digital designs should be formatted for “22 x28” poster size prints.
  • All digital entries must be saved in high-resolution 300 DPI in ALL of the following: original design file, .png file format, and .pdf file format.
  • Digital designs should be saved to a blank jump drive, placed in a 3 ½ x 6 blank envelope labeled with NAME, ADDRESS, AGE, GRADE IN SCHOOL, AND PARISH/CHAPTER on the front.
  • NO TEMPLATES may be used in the digital division. All design work must be original and from scratch, just as a poster would be designed.
  • Pictures, clip-art, and materials (i.e. cartoon characters, advertisements, logos, etc.) that are copyrighted may not be used on the poster. The poster will be disqualified if copyrighted materials are used.
  • Computer-generated clip-art may be used on the poster if it is not copyrighted material.
  • Materials to pull ideas from are also available from your local supermarket, butcher, the American Meat Institute, and National Livestock and Meat Board.

4-H Posters

4-H Poster Guidelines:

  • The design must be on a 22”x28” poster board only.
  • The poster should generate a positive image of 4-H. It can encompass any and all aspects of 4-H.
  • Get ideas from magazines, parents, friends, 4-H handouts, and materials
  • Winning posters may be chosen as next year’s Ascension Parish 4-H theme.
  • Divisions
    • I-----4th and 5th grades
    • II-----6th, 7th, and 8th grades
    • III----9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades
