Demonstration Day

These guidelines were provided by the Allen Parish School Board. Pre-registration for this contest will be due by Feb. 17, 2011 Start today preparing to compete in the Allen Parish Demonstration Day Contest. This year the contest will be held during school on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. Remember this is an excellent contest to earn club points.

4-H’ers who are thirteen years of age or older also have an opportunity to qualify for 4-H University through this contest. See handout on Rules and Regulations for more information. Also remember that you must abide by the following guidelines to participate in Demonstration Day:
 
1. 4-H’ers who do not attend school on Feb. 24, 2011, will not be excused to participate in Demonstration Day.
2. 4-H’er must exhibit proof of complete demonstration or public speech no later than Feb. 17, 2011, to their club’s adult leader.
3. 4-H volunteer leaders need to contact school principal and arrange for use of activity bus and acquire bus driver for this day. It would be advisable to arrange this before Feb. 7, 2011.
4. Name Tag Contest for all clubs is being done to insure only 4-H’ers attend this contest.

Dress Revue Contest

Garments are due in to the 4-H office by Feb. 7, 2011.

The Dress Revue will be held at the Oberlin Elementary Auditorium on Feb. 24, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. during the opening assembly of Demonstration Day. Elementary through senior 4-H club members are encouraged to participate in the Allen Parish 4-H Dress Revue contest.

Here are the items that may be entered: If you have any questions or need assistance completing a garment, call the 4-H office at 337-639-4376! See 4-H Agent or your local leader for Data Form to attach to garment.

Elementary - 4-6 graders
1. First year – turn in a draw string apron, chef apron, gathered skirt, vest or sassy skirt.
2. Second year – turn in shorts, pants or jumper.
3. Three years and more – turn in a complete outfit

Junior and Senior – all must turn in a complete outfit.

Penny King and Queen Contest

Begins Jan. 17, 2011 until March 15, 2011
 
4-H’ers are asked to prepare containers to collect donations. Those who collect at least $20 will receive a T-shirt. Whoever collects the most money for each school is named the School Penney King and Queen and will receive a small trophy.

The Allen Parish 4-H Penny King and Queen will be the ones collecting the most money among all the schools. They will receive large trophies and a small gift. The money collected is used for awards for parish contests.

Challenge Camp

All 7th and 8th graders are eligible to attend this three-day, two-night camp at Camp Grant Walker. It will be held Friday, April 15, 2011 through Sunday, April 17, 2011. The cost is $60 and includes a T-shirt.

The 2011 theme is “Peace, Love and 4-H.” We will have outdoor challenges, team building, a dance and you will get to meet 4-Hers from 10 different parishes.

Food and Fitness Camp

This is an overnight camp for 9 year olds through 12 year olds interested in learning about healthy food and a healthy lifestyle. It will be held at Camp Grant Walker March 26, 2011 beginning at 11:00 a.m. It ends at 11:00 a.m. on March 27, 2011. Four 4-H'ers from Allen Parish can attend and must bring at least one adult to participate in the camp. The adult attending must be overnight trained before the end of February.

Call our office at 337-639-4376 by Feb. 21, 2011 to let us know if you would like to attend. The cost is $40 per person.

Junior Leadership Conference

If you are interested in developing stronger leadership and teamwork skills and meeting 4-H'ers from across Louisiana, then this event is for you! This weekend conference is for 14 year olds and older. It will be held March 18-20, 2011, at Camp Grant Walker. The cost is $65 and is due by Jan. 21, 2011.

The 2011 theme is: 4-H Super Heroes: Finding Your Inner Leadership. Each participant chooses one track and those that you can choose from are: Outdoor – The Hulk deals with fishing, rifle and bow and arrow skills. Leadership – Justice League includes working together through presentations and public speaking skills. Service Learning – The Incredibles is where you’ll find out how you can develop service in your community. SET - Transformers concerns interests in photography, chemistry and robots. Teamwork – X-Men involves overcoming challenges while working as a team.

Shooting Sports

Jan. 10, 2011
Shotgun and Archery (Mandatory) meeting at the Oberlin Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. If anyone is interested in Rifle training, they can come to the meeting to sign up.
