4-H Workshop Day

December 20, 2010
Kinder High School

We have a really fun day planned for you! It will be held the Monday you are out for Christmas, Dec. 20, 2010, at Kinder High School Family and Consumer Sciences Department. We will have two different workshops that day from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The deadline to sign up for these workshops is Monday, Dec. 13, 2010.

Nutrition Workshop – we will cook and get to eat what we cook and learn a little about nutrition and fitness. We will do three activities out of the Six Easy Bites Book and three out of the Tasty Tidbits Book. Three activities complete the book for the year so you will have that project completed before Christmas for your record book. Cost $5.

Photography Workshop – all participants should bring a digital camera with a blank camera card. We will have a scavenger hunt where you take pictures of the items we find. How to take better pictures will be discussed and everyone will have an opportunity to take pictures. We will critique the pictures and make a card with one picture that we print out for each person. Cost $3.

Penny King and Queen Contest

Starts January 17, 2011

4-H'ers are asked to prepare containers to collect donations. Those who collect at least $20 will receive a t-shirt. Whoever collects the most money for each school is named the School Penny King and Queen and will receive a small trophy. The Allen Parish 4-H Penny King and Queen will be the ones collecting the most money among all the schools. They will receive large trophies and a small gift. The money collected is used for awards for parish contests.

Key Club and Junior Award of Excellence

The 4-H Key Club Award (14 years old and older) and Jr. Award of Excellence (13 years and under) in Louisiana give recognition to 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their clubs and in their parishes. The object of the program is to encourage project growth, a broad program of 4-H club activities over the years, and the development of outstanding citizens. Allen Parish can select three 4-H’ers in each of these divisions. Applications are due at the 4-H office by Jan. 4, 2011. Winners will be announced at Achievement Day. Forms will be available at the 4-H Office or at club meetings.

Master Gardener

Leaders and/or teachers - if you are interested in growing a spring garden, contact Randy Bellon at 337-639-4376. There is a Master Gardener Program that provides lesson plans for the classroom. This is ideal for science classes.
