Water

Water quality testing in the STPAL is not for drinking water. We cannot determine potability.

The LSU Soil Testing and Plant Analysis Laboratory (STPAL) provides a comprehensive analysis of irrigation water quality to help ensure sustainable irrigation of crops and landscape plants. This report is designed for diagnosing irrigation water quality and for helping to manage pond water properly. Find the water test request form below:

Water Sample Form link.

You need at least 4 oz. of water for testing. Collect your water sample in a clean plastic container.

Your water will be tested for the following:

  • Alkalinity
  • Calcium (ppm)
  • Chloride (ppm)
  • Conductivity (umho/cm)
  • Hardness (Ca + Mg)
  • Iron (ppm)
  • Magnesium (ppm)
  • Manganese (ppm)
  • Nitrate - N (ppm)
  • pH
  • Potassium (ppm)
  • Salts (ppm)

Included in your report will be interpretation for all analyses tested except hardness, ranging from Very Low to Very High. Water hardness is determined from levels of calcium and magnesium in your sample. SAR is determined from levels of calcium, magnesium, and sodium in your water sample.
