Small amounts of forage (but no less than a half-pound forage) can be analyzable in the lab. However, a sample should be representative of the whole forage mass or baleage. Approximately, one-pound of forage sample collected from multiple spots will be a good sampling. If your pasture is a mixture of multiple species or weedy, please consider multiple sample submissions for better nutritive value estimations. Ziploc bag (quart/medium size) or any air-tight plastic bag will work for a sample container. Before sealing the bag, please press the bag to remove the captured air in the bag.
Please label sample bag(s) for identification, especially when you submit multiple samples.
