Maud Walsh, Swoope, Elizabeth A.

The Central Analytical Instruments Research Laboratory (CAIRL) provides research-oriented analytical services to the LSU faculty members, experiment station and extension personnel, and the general public. CAIRL performs analyses on water, plant digests, soil extractions, and other environmental matrices. CAIRL is committed to QA/QC principles and practices that ensure the accuracy and precision of results. While the analyses are performed primarily using established routine methods, CAIRL is also willing to use novel methods to meet specific client needs.

The Central Analytical Instruments Research Laboratory (CAIRL) at the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences, is located in Room 312, Sturgis Hall, South Tower Drive, LSU Campus, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Why use the LSU AgCenter Central Analytical Instruments Research laboratory?

CAIRL has an advanced laboratory consisting of different modern equipment. We provide high-quality analysis, keeping the needs of research people in mind. We also provide our technical expertise to find out what type of analysis best suits your research needs. CAIRL provides more than routine analysis.

  2. What type of samples can I submit for IC analysis?

Aqueous samples filtered through <= 0.45 µM filter are suitable for IC analysis.

  3. May I submit unfiltered samples for IC analysis?

Yes, you may, but it will increase the cost per sample because we must do filtering for you.

  4. Do you analyze any of the cations by IC?

No. We only analyze anions, namely Fl, Cl, NO2-N, Br, SO4,NO3-N and PO4.
