Several disciplines converge in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences (SPESS), but the agronomists, weed scientists, horticulturists and environmental managers in the department are working to help farmers and gardeners grow stronger, better plants.
Scientists in the school find ways to improve yields on crops that are important to Louisiana, while also reducing farmers’ costs and the effects of farming on the environment.
Horticulturists conduct extensive research on ornamentals, vegetables, turf grass and other plants.
