Their contribution to science is invaluable!

Trishan receives 2025 Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award!
The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Trisha is one of 155 recipients to receive the award. He will use funds from the award to support his travel expenses traveling between the LSU Pennington Biomedical Research Center, the LSU Veterinary School, and the LSU Life Science laboratories for his dissertation research on understanding gut microbiome-brain interaction in Alzheimer's disease.

Mina presented a poster and gave a lightning talk at the Summer Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF) on August 1, 2025. She shared results from her LSU OUR project grant, which explored how dietary lipids impact the gut microbiome. Mina had the opportunity to connect with fellow scientists from across Louisiana and explain the dynamic relationship between diet, microbiota, and brain function. She captured the audience’s imagination by saying, “Imagine the Inside Out movie characters in Riley’s head living in your gut.” Her research contributes to a growing understanding of the gut-brain axis and how nutrition can influence both physical and mental health.

Trishan continues to add one accolade after another. He earns second place in the IFT Carbohydrate Division Hackathon, and third place in the IFT Graduate Student Oral Competition in the Aquatic Food Products Division during IFT FIRST 2025. As team captain, he led LSU entries in the IFT MARS Product Development Competition and the Developing Solutions for Developing Countries Product Development Competition!

Mina wins the Office of Undergraduate Research Project Grant to conduct research at the MinD-Gut Lab in Summer 2025!
Mina will be using techniques such as DNA extraction, microbiome sequencing, lipidomics, and ELISA to connect dietary lipids metabolism by microorganisms in our gut to inflammation in the brain-a common cause of cognitive decline.
