August 2024 to Present

Under the Direction of Dr. Stephen Baca.

With the help of an active team of staff, students, volunteers, and collaborators, LSAM’s activities center on the following three objectives.

  1. LSAM is expanding its support of the traditional land grand mission by building capacity for diagnostics, extension, and research for the LSU AgCenter and its stakeholders.
  2. LSAM is finding new ways to support the LSU research community wherever efforts intersect with entomology. Collaborations include the LSU Department of Chemistry, LSU Biosciences, and several labs in the department of entomology. Supported efforts span ecology, evolution, forensics and forensic chemistry, genetics, biocontrol, vector biology, invasives detection and more!
  3. Finally, LSAM is a natural history collection with the mission of preserving a physical record of local and global biodiversity. Through his research on aquatic insect systematics and evolution, Dr. Baca is growing LSAM’s aquatic insect holdings to develop the knowledge and tools to better understand Louisiana’s most abundant and often impacted natural resource: water.
