The Louisiana Section of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) held its Fall Business Meeting on October 19, 2012 on LSU campus in Baton Rouge. The Executive Committee members as elected at the meeting are:

Chair: Dale Garber
Chair-Elect: Skie Sagrera
Secretary: Roger Husser
Treasurer: Dr. Richard Bengtson
Vice-Chair Continuing Education: Dale Frederick
Vice-Chair Programs: Wendall Meaux
Vice-Chair Membership: Dain Gillen
Vice-Chair Awards/Scholarships: Loland Broussard
Vice-Chair Public Relations: Edward Kantz
Past Chair: Dr. Steve Hall

During the meeting, the chapter awarded Dale Garber the Louisiana ASABE Engineer of the Year Award for 2012 for his service and expertise. Dale is a long time employee of USDA NRCS and has been active professionally and with the chapter for many years. The ASABE chapter recently received word the 2015 ASABE International meeting will be held in New Orleans. The process to “host” the annual event was significantly a result of Dale’s work.

Following the business meeting, members had the opportunity to hear presentations by Dr. Chandra Theegala of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, LSU AgCenter and Dr. W. David Constant, Head of the LSU Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering. Dr. Theegala discussed research on the production of microalgal biofuels, and Dr. Constant discussed engineering ethics. The presentations were followed by lunch and tours of the Port Allen Locks and the Port of Greater Baton Rouge.

ASABE and BAE work together on a number of ongoing projects. The ASABE chapter sponsors an annual scholarship and other events with the BAE department at LSU.  For further information contact Dale ( or Loland (
