The LSU AgCenter’s Master Horseman Program consists of 8 three-hour clinics to educate horse owners on the science of equine management and the concepts of training and riding. Instructors utilize hands-on demonstrations to allow participants to develop foundation techniques, use written materials, internet web sites, social media, and television programs to relay best management skills. On average 75.5% of graduates have adopted research-based practices that have been emphasized during the Master Horseman program.

Introduction to the Master Horseman Program

The goal of this program is to have a group of well-trained volunteer leaders around the state and to increase the knowledge of horsemen. Graduates have a responsibility to teach others throughout the equine community and donate 40 hours of service. Since its inception, over 1200 men and women have graduated from this program and serve in leadership roles in horse organizations and youth programs throughout the state. Due to evolving time constraints and the vast opportunities with the horse industry future programs will consist of 4-5 hour clinics and will strive to engage additional industry professionals to cover a wider range of topics and areas throughout the state.
