Cassia, now more commonly called by the scientific name of Senna, is a great fall-flowering large shrub-like plant for Louisiana.
Cassia splendida is usually the tallest-growing of the several species – making a 10- to 12-foot-tall tree. It is common to see them 12-15 feet tall in the more southern portions of the state.
These are abundant fall bloomers – from October through mid-December most years.
Cassia alata is another popular variety that’s commonly called candlestick tree.
