MANY, La. – 4-H members comprised six of the eight Sabine Parish students who received the Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders awards, a program sponsored by Chesapeake Energy Corp.
The winners were selected from more than 280 nominations submitted by school officials, families, friends, and 4-H and FFA officials.
In addition to the awards, Chesapeake donated $1,000 in equipment and supplies to each school. The Sabine Parish 4-H Club, FFA and Sabine Parish Chamber of Commerce also were awarded computers for their support of the students selected and their efforts in the contest.
Each week for eight weeks, a student was selected based on a wide range of school activities, including volunteerism with 4-H and character development through FFA.
Sabine Parish winners who are 4-H’ers and their high schools are Regan Anderson, Negreet; Samuel Laroux, Ebarb; ShaMiracle Brown, Pleasant Hill; Candice Richardson, Florien; Daniel Litton, Converse; and Hunter Curtis, Ebarb, who was one of two students who won a laptop computer at an awards banquet Nov. 15.
The event has also been held in Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto and Red River parishes.
