The LSU AgCenter has announced a conference on wood-based biofuels, biomass and bioenergy for utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, forest land managers and owners, pulp and paper industry professionals and policymakers April 22-23 in Baton Rouge.

“Every day we are bombarded with news articles, press releases and e-mails informing us of new developments in biofuels, biomass and bioenergy,” said Rich Vlosky, director of the Louisiana Forest Products Development Center in the LSU AgCenter.

“Following up on the highly successful LSU AgCenter’s Louisiana Natural Resources Symposium held in July 2009, this conference will focus on two areas – wood and Louisiana,” Vlosky said.

The program will feature issues and topics ranging from the fundamentals of wood-based fuels and energy products to applied, real-world cases and examples from practitioners, Vlosky said.

“Accordingly, the topics and sessions at the conference will include policy, management and utilization issues that are highly relevant to anyone currently or potentially involved in wood-based biomass in Louisiana,” he said.

The fee for the conference is $75 before April 8 and $125 after April 8. The student fee is $20 before April 8 and $30 after April 8.

The program qualifies for 12 hours of Continuing Logger Education from the Louisiana Logging Council and for 10 hours of Category 1 CF hours from the Society of American Foresters.
