News Release Distributed 09/14/09
The 2009 Fall Garden Show in New Orleans will be held at the City Park Botanical Garden Oct. 17-18 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day.
Brent Jeansonne, an LSU AgCenter horticulture agent and coordinator for the garden show, said he would like to see this show break records for attendance.
“If the numbers for this show come anywhere close to the numbers that we had attending the spring show, I would be really excited,” Jeansonne said. “We’re hoping with good weather we can at least equal pre-Katrina levels of attendance.”
Jeansonne said the fall garden show is always a fun event featuring garden product exhibitors and sales people throughout the garden.
“The fall show is another opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the botanical garden, gain valuable information from educational speakers, visit with other gardening enthusiast and purchase some really neat plants,” Jeansonne said.
Vendors, including horticulture services companies, will be offering a variety of plants and garden products for sale.
“We’ll also have a great lineup of educational speakers at this year’s show,” Jeansonne said. “We’re especially excited about the appearance of Audubon Insectarium’s Zack Lemann, who appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman,” Jeansonne said.
A new addition to the fall show will be “Vendors’ Talks,” where vendors have an opportunity to talk about hot, interesting horticultural topics, products and services.
“The vendor talks debuted at this year’s spring show, where it was an instant hit,” he said.
Louisiana Master Gardeners and horticulture experts from the LSU AgCenter will be available to answer homeowner questions. And visitors can bring soil samples for analysis by the LSU AgCenter’s Soil Testing Lab.
Admission to the event is $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Children under 5 and members of Friends of City Park may enter free.
The New Orleans Fall Garden Show is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter in cooperation with the Metro Horticulture Foundation and the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
