Southwest Garden Festival in Lake Charles will be March 28-29

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The 10th Annual Southwest Louisiana Garden Festival will be held in Lake Charles March 28-29 at Burton Coliseum, 7001 Gulf Highway.

The event will include guest speakers on a variety of garden topics and a plant health clinic where LSU AgCenter experts and Master Gardeners will answer gardening questions.

On Saturday, March 28, starting at 9 a.m., LSU AgCenter experts will give a series of vegetable gardening talks, followed at 1 p.m. with talks on fruit production.

On Sunday, March 29, starting at 10 a.m., LSU AgCenter landscaping experts will discuss landscaping plants, followed by a presentations on camellias at 12:30 p.m. and herb gardens at 1:30 p.m.

The festival will include a regional flower show, and vendors will have plants and gardening-related items for sale.

"The garden festival is a wholesome, educational environment and the perfect activity to bring together friends and families," said Robert Turley, LSU AgCenter horticulturist in Calcasieu Parish.

Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 with children under age 12 admitted free. Proceeds will benefit the Calcasieu Parish 4-H program.

The Federated Garden Clubs of Southwest Louisiana will be displaying their floral designs and horticulture talents.

Children will have a special booth with the 4-H club providing activities related to gardening. The 4-H Rent-A-Kid will be there to help festival-goers carry out items to their vehicles.
