The 2010 LSU AgCenter Livestock Show will be held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LSU AgCenter officials announced.

The Ascension Parish government and Lamar-Dixon officials signed an agreement Aug. 12 for the parish to buy the equestrian and events facility and 247 acres for $7.5 million, capping more than four years of discussion.

“The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center has been a popular venue for our livestock show,” said Dwight Landreneau, LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor. “The center is large enough to meet our needs, is conveniently located and has served us well for the past six years. We are excited to continue presenting the livestock show at Lamar-Dixon.”

The LSU AgCenter began holding the show at Lamar-Dixon in 2004. The three-year contract was extended another three years, but that contract expired with the 2009 show, Landreneau said.

Earlier this year more than 3,000 youngsters brought nearly 6,000 animals to the 2009 livestock competition.

Dates for the 2010 show, which will be the 75th annual event, are Feb. 13-20.
