NEW IBERIA, La. – Ag Awareness in Iberia Parish will give third-graders the chance to learn about farming and the source of their food May 6-7 at the SugArena.
A joint program of the LSU AgCenter and the Iberia Parish School Board, the event will comprise 30 stations for the students to view exhibits and demonstrations of agriculture practices and products, animals and farm equipment.
The event starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. both days. Blair Hebert, LSU AgCenter county agent in Iberia Parish, said the program is the result of volunteers and donations from area individuals, organizations and companies.
“Without them, this educational event would not be possible,” Hebert said.
“The event started in 1998 but was canceled in 2006 because the parish was still recovering from ’05 hurricanes,” Hebert said. “This will be the 10th year.”
The SugArena is located at the intersection of Admiral Doyle Drive and Highway 3212.
Pre-registration for the event is required. For more information, call (337) 369-4440.
