ALEXANDRIA – The sixth annual LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research Station field day has been scheduled for Aug. 21 at the AgCenter’s C. DeWitt Livestock Facility.
Because the field stops are located nearby, a walking tour is planned so participants can closely observe the research being conducted at the station. Ten scheduled stops will include weed resistance, biofuels, cotton, corn, soybeans, wheat and beef cattle.
LSU AgCenter weed scientists will conduct a tour of weed control in row crops at the station, and Dr. Alan York, a weed scientist from North Carolina State University, will discuss weed resistance and management.
Dr. Ben Legendre, LSU AgCenter sugarcane specialist, and Dr. Steve Moore, LSU AgCenter agronomist, will discuss biofuels and corn research.
Other presentations will include information on cotton varieties, pest management, cotton fertility, wheat and double-crop wheat/cotton research.
In addition, the tour will feature stops on soybean pest management, planting soybeans on twin versus single rows and beef cattle research.
The field day will start with registration at 2 p.m., continue with field tours and conclude with dinner at 6:30 p.m.
The LSU AgCenter’s DeWitt Livestock Facility is located south of the LSU Alexandria campus on the east side of U.S. Highway 71.
