The 27th annual Ag Expo will be open to the public Jan. 16 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe.
Sponsored by the North Louisiana Agri-Business Council, Ag Expo promotes agribusiness and informs the public about the importance of agriculture.
On Jan. 14-15, the LSU AgCenter will coordinate Ag Alley – several areas of the center filled with information about Louisiana commodities. This year, Ag Alley will feature horticulture, cotton, livestock and horses, said Cynthia Stephens, LSU AgCenter agent in Ouachita Parish. First- and fourth-grade students tour by appointment.
As an adjunct to the expo, the LSU AgCenter will sponsor a forestry forum from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 17 at the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn. Speakers will present information on current national and state forestland trends and forest resource utilization opportunities for landowners.
Forestry forum registration is $15 – or $7 for additional members of the same family – before Jan. 12 with an additional $5 or $3 respectively after that date. Registration includes refreshments and an admission ticket to Ag Expo.
For more information, call Mike Blazier with the LSU AgCenter at (318) 927-2578.
The Louisiana State Pecan Show also will be held Jan. 16-17 during Ag Expo. Pecan growers are encouraged to participate to share their knowledge with visitors.
The display and literature at the show will provide information about the benefits of eating pecans, and non-dessert pecan recipes will be offered to encourage using pecans in a healthy diet.
Pecan show information is available from John Pyzner, LSU AgCenter pecan and fruit specialist, at (318) 797-8034.
