Louisiana Youth Place In Southern Regional 4-H Horse Event

Louisiana had three first-place winners in the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships in Memphis, held July 31-Aug. 5. They were Dani Anderson, West Carroll Parish, first in barrel racing; Aaron Burns of Rapides Parish, first in tie-down roping; and Angelique Sellars, Lafayette Parish, first in pole bending.

All together, 35 Louisiana students qualified through their district horse shows and the state Louisiana 4-H and FFA Horse Show, held earlier in July, for the competition in Memphis, said Clint DePew, LSU AgCenter coordinator of horse educational programs.

Other Louisiana winners at the regional competition by parishes are as follows:

Acadia: Robbin Lejuene, second, saddle type geldings (trotting).

Bienville: Tanya Michelle Griffith, eighth, barrel racing.

East Baton Rouge: Courtney Brossett, fourth, stock type mares; sixth, stock type geldings; Brandy Green, fifth, showmanship-western attire; ninth, pole bending.

Lafayette: Angelique Sellars, sixth, barrel racing.

Morehouse: Tommy Stevenson, eighth, pole bending.

Rapides: Joshua Burns, seventh, tie down roping; fourth, breakaway roping. Aaron Burns, sixth, breakaway roping. Katie Fuqua, 10th, barrel racing; sixth, stake race.

Richland: Hannah Greer, fourth, pole bending.

St. James: Zack Dufresne, second, stock type mares.

St. Martin: Dustin Angelle, ninth, stock type mares.

St. Tammany: Brittany Kendrick, sixth, showmanship-hunt seat. Mary Kendrick, seventh, hunter under saddle.

Tangipahoa: Amanda Arevalo, third, stock type geldings.

Terrebonne: Hope Floyd, 10th, western riding.

Union: Wesley Wilcher, fifth, reining; sixth, reining.

Vernon: Kristen Morrison, seventh, breakaway roping.

In addition, the following awards were presented to Louisiana 4-H’ers at the regional competition: Cody Quebedaus, Lafourche, third, public speaking; Cassie Karl, St. Helena, 10th, individual presentation; Erika Anderson (Bossier) and Tanya Griffith (Bienville), fourth, team presentation; Gentry Pickett, Ashley Johnson, Cole Guidry and Whitney Simon, Lafayette, 10th, horse judging teams; Gentry Pickett, Lafayette, seventh, horse judging individuals, reasons; Gentry Pickett, Ashley Johnson, Cole Guidry and Whitney Simon, Lafayette, eighth, horse judging teams, reasons; and Gentry Pickett, Ashley Johnson, Cole Guidry and Whitney Simon, Lafayette, ninth, horse judging teams, overall.
