HOMER – Four tours designed to provide information on beef, dairy, forages and forestry will be the focus of the LSU AgCenter’s Hill Farm Research Station Field Day scheduled for Oct. 14.

The field day will run from 1:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the research station located at Homer.

Dr. Allen Nipper, LSU AgCenter North Central Region director, said the tours will feature valuable information for growers.

"The beef tour will feature discussions on calf growth and dam reproduction, as well as cool-season pastures for beef," Nipper said. "The dairy tour will feature a presentation on the mycoplasma control program, a discussion on poisonous plants and weeds, and a discussion on prepartum heifer therapy."

Information on the liming of cool-season pastures and a poultry litter regulation update will be given during the forage tour.

On the forestry tour, a report on pine response to herbicides and a discussion on management of pine density will be given.

Demonstrations and exhibits also will offer information on the nutritional value of beef, forest sustainability, new animal identification products, water quality, animal waste fertilization and bulk milk tank analyses. The Louisiana Forest Products Development Center, a unit of the LSU AgCenter's School of Renewable Natural Resources, will also have an exhibit.
