The LSU AgCenter’s Rosepine Research Station will host its annual Beef Cattle and Forage Field Day May 6.
Co-sponsored by the Beauregard Parish Cattlemen’s Association, the event will feature tours of research plots at the station and will include the 17th annual Beauregard Cattlemen’s Trade Show. Admission to the event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
LSU AgCenter personnel will conduct two tours during the field day – one focused on beef cattle and the other on forage production. To allow participants to take part in the tours on both subject areas, the first round of tours will begin at 1:30 p.m., and the second will begin at 4 p.m.
The tours will include information on the LSU AgCenter’s work on electronic animal identification, advanced animal breeding techniques, weed identification and the latest weed control recommendations.
Manufacturers and dealers will open the trade show at noon, and the show will feature exhibits on the latest developments in the production of forage and livestock. Displays will include tractors, implements, trucks, trailers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, feed, fertilizers, seed, livestock equipment, animal health products, livestock marketing, fencing, farm financial service and other business services.
A complimentary meal will be served at 5:30 p.m., and the trade show and field day will close at 7 p.m.
In addition to the tours and trade show, industry representatives and LSU AgCenter faculty members will be on hand for individual consultations with producers during the event. Numerous LSU AgCenter publications and commercial publications also will be available for producers.
