Do Raspberries Grow Well in Southeast Louisiana?

Hi Dan! I was wondering if raspberries grow well in southeast Louisiana? I live in Belle Chasse and I have a vegetable garden with some extra space and did not know if they would do well in this environment. If so, what type do I plant and when do I plant them? Also, what is the best way to care for them? Is it ok to plant them next to vegetables and a satsuma tree? Thanks.

Raspberries are challenging this far south. The only variety that does reasonably well in Louisiana is Dorman Red. Below is a link to the LSU AgCenter blackberry online publication. Raspberries are grown like blackberries (which do very well in Louisiana).

Plant as soon as possible at this point. Ideally, planting between November and February is best. See the publication for care information. No problem planting them next to your vegetables and satsuma tree.
