I planted a calla lily in pot but it never bloomed. It is very green and seems very healthy. What do think is the reason? I did give it some fertilizer.- Chris L.
For blooms the first year I recommend you purchase a blooming plant. The blooming season is primarily in April and May. Since it did not bloom back then, it will not likely bloom this year.
The most likely explanation is that the plant is not mature enough to bloom. With good care, expect it to bloom next spring. Do be sure it is getting about a half day of sun - during the morning is ideal. A location that gets sun all day will cause the leaves to have a yellow cast. On the other hand, calla lilies will not bloom in heavy shade.
They tend to go dormant in the heat of mid to late summer, so don’t be alarmed if you see the plant decline in health at some point. Click here for more information on care.
