Organizational Commitment

The LSU Agricultural Center is committed to creating and maintaining a community where all individuals who participate in its programs and activities can work and learn together in an atmosphere free of sexual misconduct. Every member of the AgCenter community should be aware that the AgCenter prohibits sexual misconduct, including but not limited to power-based violence, sexual harassment, and sexual violence, and that such behavior violates both law and University policy. The AgCenter will respond promptly and effectively to reports of sexual misconduct, and will take appropriate action to prevent, to correct, and when necessary, to discipline behavior that violates this policy.

Confidential Advisors/Supporters

Confidential advisors are trained persons designated by the campus that the student or employee can choose to have support and advise them during the complaint process. The confidential advisor may be present during any meeting conducted under this process to assist and/or consult with the student or employee. The confidential advisor may not act as a spokesperson.

Reporting Options for Complainants

Any student or employee who believes that he or she has been subjected to sexual misconduct or any other violation under AgCenter or LSU System policy, has a right to report the conduct to the Campus Title IX Coordinator or to any other responsible person including the individuals listed below, the complainant’s department head, regional director or equivalent, or an AgCenter Program Leader.

Responding to Complaints

When a complaint or concern is brought to the AgCenter’s attention or the AgCenter otherwise becomes aware of possible sexual harassment or violence, it will immediately review the situation. The AgCenter will take reasonable action to separate the parties involved or otherwise minimize the possibility of additional contact, harassment or violence. LSU PM-73 is the overarching policy that governs the campus response to complaints of power based violence.

Any person who receives actual notice of a complaint under AgCenter and LSU System policies shall promptly notify the Campus Title IX coordinator. Any supervisor or other responsible party who witnesses or receives a report or complain shall notify the Campus Title IX Coordinator.

The Campus Title IX coordinator will designate a trained individual to meet with the alleged victim and proceed in accordance with AgCenter and LSU System policy which will include an initial review of the complaint and assessment of whether an investigation is necessary.

The AgCenter will be guided by the following principles.

1. Take immediate and appropriate steps to review and/or investigate the incident;

2. Take prompt action to end the harassment and resolve the situation; and

3. Take appropriate steps to prevent recurrence of future incidents

If the incident or situation is criminal in nature and the complainant wishes to report to law enforcement, contact the LSU Police Department at 225.578.3231, or local law enforcement. Retaliation Prohibited

Retaliation is prohibited against any student or employee who files a complaint of discrimination or participates in proceedings or an investigation. Retaliatory words, actions or behavior that punishes or threatens to punish any student or employee under this policy is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action. Retaliation should be promptly reported to the Title IX Coordinator.

Supportive Measures

The AgCenter will arrange for supportive measure and reasonable accommodations to allow the complainant to change work location or schedules, obtain accessibility services, or arrange other accommodations. The same accommodations that are offered to the complainant may be offered to the respondent. Any requests for accommodations shall not trigger an investigation by the institution.
