The LSU AgCenter Global Network’s mission is to develop and enhance international partnerships, collaboration, and opportunity for LSU tigers at home and abroad. Global Network enhances international opportunities for faculty, students, and staff, leveraging partnerships for improved value returns to LSU and the state of Louisiana. Working closely with the LSU AgCenter’s research leaders, the Global Network cultivates opportunities for international research and technology development and recruits international students and scholars, diversifying student experience and research perspectives.
This third year of international scientific dialogue jointly organized with LSU AgCenter strategic partner – Mendel University in the Czech Republic will feature Warsaw University of Life Sciences and will concentrate on Transatlantic Cooperation for Food System Adaptation and Resilience from Fields to Consumers, said Ivana Tregenza, associate director of the LSU AgCenter Global Network.
U-Nichols Manalo, director of the National Corn Program of the Philippine Department of Agriculture, recently gave a presentation detailing his research during his time at LSU working with LSU AgCenter economist Naveen Adusumilli.
The collaboration between the LSU AgCenter and universities in Central Europe continues to grow and is showing some amazing results.
A cooperative research project between the LSU AgCenter and the University of Malaya in Malaysia to develop “climate-smart” rice has received a $50,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service.
In 2014, the LSU AgCenter and Mendel University (MENDELU) in Brno, Czech Republic, established a strategic partnership with a goal to develop sustainable cooperation in research, extension and outreach, and education. The two universities have a strong presence in agriculture, offering quality programs that engage stakeholders and students and promote entrepreneurship. Their approach to food science in particular offers multiple possible cooperative actions and elevates the quality of both programs in research and technology — through sharing of cheese formulas, for example — and education by the offering of joint courses.
LSU is the co-recipient of the 2022 IIE Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education in the category of Strategic Partnerships for the LSU AgCenter-MENDELU Partnership. This award from the Institute of International Education, or IIE, recognizes the most innovative and successful models for developing and expanding international education in practice today.
