Workers Compensation

Worker's compensation insurance is an employer-paid insurance program designed to protect employees from loss of income due to injuries sustained in the scope of their employment.

Sedgwick Claims Management Services is the third-party administrator for the LSU AgCenter's Worker's Compensation benefit. They will handle payment of all medical bills once a claim has been filed with them.

Overview

  • Provides for payment of medical expenses recommended by attending physicians.
  • Provides for compensation payments when employees are absent from work for more than one week. (Once an employee is off for six weeks, that employee is then entitled to be paid for the first week off.)
  • When employees use sick and/or annual leave (during which time they are paid l00% of their salary), they endorse and return the Worker's Compensation check, and two-thirds of their leave is recredited.
  • Payments are made at the rate of 2/3 of the individual's average weekly wage to a maximum of 75% of the statewide average weekly wage.
  • The workers compensation provider will assign a claims adjuster to work with employees who have a lost time accident. Please note that the employee is required to continue to communicate with their supervisor and chain of command during their time away from work in addition to the adjuster. The adjuster's role is not to provide absence information to the AgCenter.
