Educational Leave With Tuition Exemption

Eligible employees may register for job-related courses for up to six college credit hours per regular semester (three credit hours allowed per summer semester) and receive tuition and fee exemptions. (Note: the value of the tuition and fee waivers may be considered taxable income to the employee in accordance with Internal Revenue Service regulations.) An employee must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this exemption:

  • employed full-time for at least one year,
  • must be a full-time employee (includes faculty and faculty equivalent ranks, nonacademic and other academic employees),
  • the college credit course(s) must be job-related and approved by the immediate supervisor and unit head; and
  • only three hours per week of job-related courses may be taken during work time without charge to leave or making up time.
  • Continued participation in this program is based on satisfactory academic progress.


Educational Leave Without Tuition Exemption

During the first year of employment, eligible employees may register, at their own expense, for up to six college credit hours per regular semester (three credit hours per summer semester). An employee must meet the following criteria to be eligible:

  • must be a full-time employee (includes faculty and faculty equivalent ranks, nonacademic and other academic employees),
  • the college credit course(s) must be job-related and approved by the immediate supervisor and unit head; and
  • only three hours per week of job-related courses may be taken during work time without charge to leave or making up time.
  • Continued participation is based on satisfactory academic progress.
