STEM education has taken center stage in recent years, and robotics programs are becoming a staple in classrooms and youth organizations across the country. This year, West Feliciana Parish 4‑H is celebrating a special milestone: one of our own, Wyatt T., is serving on the Louisiana 4‑H STEM Board, proudly representing our parish at the state level.

As part of his board responsibilities, Wyatt was required to design and lead a parish‑level STEM project. He chose a topic close to his heart—coding for LEGO Robotics—and turned it into an engaging, kid‑friendly learning experience for young 4‑H’ers and Clover Buds.

Coding in LEGO robotics involves creating digital instructions that tell a robot how to move, sense, and respond. It’s the foundation that allows builders to bring their ideas to life. While coding can be complex, Wyatt found a creative way to make it simple and fun for beginners. He designed hands‑on coding blocks and built a large floor grid so students could learn the logic of programming without ever touching a computer. Youth used the blocks to build “code,” then took turns acting as the robots themselves—following their team’s instructions across the grid.

West Feliciana Parish 4-H hosted two workshops for 2nd through 4th graders. The first welcomed 15 participants, and the second brought in 7 eager learners. Each session was filled with teamwork, problem‑solving, and plenty of laughter as students discovered how coding works from the inside out.

The success of these workshops has sparked excitement for what comes next. In the upcoming sessions, students will take the skills they’ve learned and apply them to building real LEGO robots and coding them using computers. It’s a big step forward—and one they’re ready for thanks to Wyatt’s thoughtful introduction to the world of robotics.

West Feliciana Parish 4‑H is incredibly proud of Wyatt’s leadership and creativity, and we look forward to offering even more STEM opportunities for local youth.
