Wheat, oat, cover crop field day to be held April 16

(04/01/26) WINNSBORO, La. — The LSU AgCenter Tom H. Scott, Research, Extension and Education Center in Winnsboro will host the annual wheat, oat and cover crop field day Thursday, April 16.

The field day will be from 8 a.m. to noon and will provide lunch.

The event will cover topics like oat and triticale breeding, deer food plots, wheat variety development, wheat and oat increases, fungicide trials, drone sensing technology and cover crops. Researchers also will provide updates on scab nurseries, wheat crops and Hessian flies.

The field day will provide farmers updated and relevant information to improve their crops as well as more information on cover crops, said AgCenter plant pathologist Trey Price.

“It’s important for farmers to plant high-yielding, disease-resistant varieties and to know when or if to spray them and what, if anything, to spray them with,” Price said. “Cover crops are pretty important for our area and can provide many benefits to farmers, including erosion control and nutrient retention.”

The Scott Center is located at 212A Macon Ridge Road. For more information, contact Price at pprice@agcenter.lsu.edu or 318-435-2903.
