Louisiana's forests are diverse and include major types like loblolly and shortleaf pine, bottom land hardwood forests of oak, gum-cypress, as well as oak-hickory and mixed oak-pine ecosystems. The state has a significant portion of its land in forests, with the majority owned by private non-industrial owners. Key areas for exploration include the Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana's only national forest that covers 600,000 acres, offers diverse recreational opportunities, and is also the site of a longleaf pine restoration project.
